IOSH Managing Safely (New Syllabus).
This is an IOSH accredited course covering all aspects of Health and Safety in the workplace, but with the emphasis placed on a proactive approach rather than reactive. It identifies the methodology for accident prevention, explains accident causation, the purpose / benefits of a suitable and sufficient risk assessment and of how to effectively conduct one.

Structure
The training is delivered in a friendly atmosphere incorporating delegate participation, group discussions and syndicate exercises. Managing Safely is a modular course of 4 days duration, concluding with the delegate taking a written assessment followed by a practical project. Successful completion of both assessments will result in the candidate being awarded an IOSH Certificate.

- Explain the importance of the Company's Health and Safety Policy & Safe Systems of Work
- Describe how to carry out a detailed accident investigation and record appropriately
- Identify the causes of accidents and recommend suitable control measures for prevention
- Understand the principles of accident statistics, analytical process and trend identification
- Explain the legal requirements and techniques for conducting risk assessments in the workplace
- Outline the main health and safety legislation relevant to their workplace
- Understand the potential for harm from specific hazards e.g. chemicals, fire, noise, electricity, machinery, stress, lone working, violence etc. and recommend suitable controls for them
- Outline the management controls for protecting the environment
- Describe the benefits / requirements of active and reactive monitoring
- Explain the difference between a safety audit and safety inspection and purpose of each
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of appropriate procedures
