Manslaughter builder and contractor jailed following death of a young worker 24/07/2009 Two men have been jailed following the death of a 15-year-old labourer (Mr AG) who was crushed to death by a wall in Hadley Wood.

Mr AG was working as a casual labourer to carry out some garden landscaping and refurbishment for a builder (Mr CH) in April 2007. He was trapped underneath a wall that collapsed while being demolished. Emergency services (including the police, paramedics, air ambulance and the Fire Brigade) attended the scene managed to free MR AG, but he was confirmed dead at the scene of the incident.

 

 

In July 2009, Mr CH was jailed for three years after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

The Project Manager for the site (Mr DF) admitted to working while disqualified from being a company manager and to failure to discharge a duty imposed by Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work, etc Act 1974 which covers the duty of the employer to ensure so far as is reasonably practicable the health and safety of employees. He was jailed for 12 months for working while disqualified. There was no separate penalty for the health & safety matters
