Timber firm fined after worker injures hand in incident

The Case:

An HSE investigation was launched into the safety procedures of a timber firm after a worker was seriously injured in an incident at their site.

In the incident, which took place in November 2013, the employee’s hand came into contact with the moving blade of a cross saw. He sustained serious and significant hand injuries.

The case was heard at Exeter Magistrates’ Court in April 2015, where the Devon based timber firm were found guilty of breaching Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. They were fined £5,000 and ordered to pay costs of £4,500.
