First Aid at Work (3-day)

The three-day First Aid at Work course is a comprehensive training programme designed to equip workplace first aiders with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to respond effectively to a wide range of medical emergencies and injuries.

This course meets HSE requirements for higher-risk workplaces or where a more comprehensive first aid provision is needed. Ideal for designated first aiders in larger or complex settings, it ensures participants are equipped to respond promptly and effectively in emergencies.

Course overview

Over three days, learners will gain hands-on experience and in-depth understanding of first aid protocols, including:

  • The importance of preventing cross infection
  • The need for recording incidents and actions (accident book)
  • Use of available equipment (first aid kits)
  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency (emergency plan)
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock

Attendees will also learn to administer first aid to a casualty with:

  • Minor injuries including cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters
  • Injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries
  • Chest injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • Eye injuries
  • Sudden poisoning
  • Anaphylactic shock
  • Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes).

Additional units can be tailored to your needs, but may include:

  • Fainting
  • Insect sting
  • Animal bite
  • Febrile convulsions
  • Heat exhaustion
  • Heat stroke
  • Hyperventilation
  • Smoke inhalation
  • Meningitis and sepsis

On successful completion of this course, you will receive an Accredited Certificate that is valid for three years.
