My Monday in London – Fire Risk Assessment

No names – no pack drill.

I had a very busy day in London yesterday (Monday). My whole day centred around Fire Risk Assessment for a range of premises: common areas of residential premises, a new small laundry and a retail outlet.

The retail outlet had the added complication of having had an Enforcement Notice served on it last year. There is a lot that they need to do, and soon: London Fire Brigade are likely to return to see the progress made! The Fire Risk Assessment that I carried out has identified many areas for improvement (and a lot of work for basic fire safety and compliance).

By and large, the other sites were not too bad. One of the residential sites did have a lot of combustible materials stored at the top of a fire escape route (materials belonging to one of the tenants).

It would not be fair to post pictures at this stage!

As I was preparing to leave, another client rang to say that they had had a “fire incident”. This seems to have been a fault in the fixed wiring installation, leading to a short circuit and some smoke. At least they know that the smoke detectors do work! I now need to get a proper incident report and help them to put the proper corrective actions in place.
