Free safety seminar in Birmingham

Next Wednesday, a free seminar of construction safety is being held at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham. Members of the construction industry across the Midlands are invited. The event is called ‘Looking Back, Moving Forward’.

The seminar will be looking at the challenges that are currently facing the sector – including recent and upcoming regulation changes. Other topics will include changes to the CDM regulations, health issues, safe work at height, leadership and engagement, and the importance of a competent workforce.

The seminar will be chaired by Dr Alex Grieve, and speakers will include Frances Outram (HSE board member), and John Mensforth (construction director at BAM Construction).

The event has been organised to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Health and Safety at Work Act, and the 60th anniversary of the construction section of the Birmingham Health, Safety and Environment Association.

It is open to representatives from all sizes of companies, self-employed builders, tradespeople and clients.

Where and When:

The event will take place between 8.30am – 3pm on Wednesday 22 April 2015.

It will be held at the Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham.

What the HSE have said:

HSE principal inspector Tony Mitchell said:

“Construction workers are nearly four times as likely to be killed at work compared to the average worker, and an estimated 70,000 in the industry will today be suffering ill health as a result of their work.

“This event will provide an opportunity to find out about changes to construction regulations and what practical measures need to be put in place to keep people safe.”
