11 February Work at Height – a picture paints a 1000 words There have been a series of health and safety failure through poor work at height pictures “doing the rounds” – I have put some of these together to show you what people actually do. As far as I know, these are real situations. Good luck with the incident investigation if anything goes wrong here. Not only would a fall be serious (probably fatal), but if this picture had been snapped by the HSE then a prosecution would surely have followed. I would be fascinated to see the Risk Assessment and Method Statement to accompany this job! The low level of regard that people can hold their own safety in is staggering. It’s worst when you think that they be be responsible for the health and safety of others (or for training or supervising others). While this gets marks for ingenuity, I bet it’s not covered in the Health and Safety Policy. The domestic world is not free from it’s contribution in this health and safety field, as can be seen below: You need to look very carefully at this last one – the full horror is not obvious at first glance.
